5 Dental Secrets to Whiten Teeth

People are constantly looking for ways to whiten their teeth due to a variety of reasons. Having a set of white shiny teeth enhances your appearance. It is one of the first things people notice about you that can have a huge impact on your self-confidence. Stained teeth make you appear dirty and irresponsible. It can make you self-conscious when you are around others and force you to consciously keep your mouth closed when you smile. That is no way to live.

Regardless of your oral hygiene habits, your teeth will eventually become stained or discolored. The foods we eat are broken down into acids that damage our teeth, while the coloring agents in them lead to discoloration. The things you consume can also lead to staining since certain foods have extremely powerful coloring agents.

Certain medications can lead to our teeth becoming discolored as well. For example, drinking red wine, tea, or coffee will stain and discolor your teeth over time. Fortunately, there are things you can do to help your teeth combat stains and discoloration.

Here are 5 dental secrets to whiten your teeth:

1. Brush after eating

Dentists generally recommend brushing your teeth twice a day, but you can whiten them by brushing after every meal with a whitening toothpaste. These brands of toothpaste are not strong enough to help you remove deep discoloration, but they can help you scrub off some surface stains and mild discoloration. If you must consume foods like pasta, make sure you brush your teeth shortly after to remove any food particles left behind.

2. Brush with hydrogen peroxide or baking soda twice a week

Baking soda is extremely cheap to purchase and it has powerful whitening abilities. You can mix it with an equal amount of hydrogen peroxide to form a paste. Apply this mixture to your toothbrush and brush as normal. Do this twice a week and you will start seeing results in a couple of weeks.

3. Rinse your mouth with coconut oil

Rinsing the mouth with coconut oil can be another effective way to whiten your teeth with something in your pantry. Pour some coconut oil into a cup and swish it around your mouth for 30 seconds. The oil works both as an antibacterial that kills germs in your mouth and a whitening agent that whitens your teeth. It typically takes a few weeks to see visible results.

4. Brush with Apple cider

If patience is one of your virtues (or you do not happen to have any baking soda or coconut oil), brushing with apple cider vinegar is a great alternative. It gradually brightens your teeth over time. You simply apply some to your toothbrush and brush like you normally would. Avoid overdoing it since acidic substances can damage your teeth. Make sure you rinse your mouth thoroughly after each application.

5. Get a whitening treatment

If you are more into instant gratification, then getting a professional whitening treatment by your dentist is the best alternative. Your oral professional has access to products that are significantly stronger than over-the-counter alternatives, and you will have significantly whiter teeth after the procedure.
