Are Teeth in a Day Painful?

If you want to replace all of your upper or lower teeth with artificial teeth, then teeth in a day may be an option for you. However, you might be wondering if the procedure to put the teeth in place will be painful. Knowing more about what the procedure is like can help to prepare you for it. Read on to learn more about how it works.

Teeth in a day procedure

Before the procedure, the dentist will go over the treatment plan with the patient. This might include bone grafting if the patient does not have enough bone density in the jaw. Before the procedure begins, the dentist will numb the area with local anesthesia.

The patient may feel the stab of the needle, but this is usually quick and causes only minor discomfort for the patient. Once the patient has enough anesthesia in the area, they will not feel the procedure happening. Sometimes, patients will have the option to choose laughing gas or general anesthesia for this procedure.

During the teeth in a day procedure, the dentist will place the implants in the patient’s jaw. The dentist can then stitch the area around the implants to help promote healing. The dentist can place the artificial teeth over these implants.

Managing pain

After the procedure, the patient’s mouth will still be numb. The anesthesia will take some time to wear off from the area. This can take up to a few hours. After this time, the patient will gradually begin to feel more pain. The dentist will recommend the right over-the-counter pain reliever for the patient. For example, aspirin can thin the blood and promote bleeding, so this may not be a good choice for a patient right after oral surgery.

In some cases, the dentist will give the patient a prescription pain reliever. It is important for patients to use this pain reliever only as directed. However, the prescription is stronger than an over-the-counter reliever and this may be necessary for some patients.

There are several things that a patient can do to help ease the pain. A cold compress or an ice pack wrapped in a towel can help to reduce swelling. It can also help to stop the bleeding faster while soothing the area. On the other hand, hot things, such as soups, can cause the area to bleed for even longer. This is why it is a good idea to stick with cold foods in the beginning.

The good news is that getting teeth in a day is not designed to be a painful procedure. Your dentist can work with you to find the right type of anesthesia for you. This can help you avoid feeling pain during the procedure. After the procedure, there are steps that you can take to help manage any discomfort. This includes taking pain relievers and using cold compresses to help soothe the area and stop the bleeding.
