Dental Issues that can be treated with Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry can be a lifesaver for people dealing with a wide range of dental issues. These are people who often find themselves feeling self-conscious when they interact with others. A smile is an essential part of your appearance; it is one of the first things people notice about you during interactions.

People with healthy-looking smiles are often perceived as successful and attractive, while the opposite is the case for people with damaged or discolored teeth.

Thanks to cosmetic dentistry, people no longer have to be ashamed of the appearance of their teeth and gums. Here are some common dental issues that can be fixed by a cosmetic dentist.

Common oral issues cosmetic dentistry can fix

1. Chipped tooth

A chipped tooth can quickly ruin a person's smile, but there are a few dental treatments that can be used to fix it. The cheapest way to fix a chipped tooth is with composite bonding. The bond has the same color as natural teeth, and it is applied to the damaged tooth and molded into the desired shape. It is then hardened using ultraviolet light.

Veneers can also be used to fix a chipped tooth. A veneer is a thin shell that is placed in the front of a tooth, hiding any issues on it. Depending on the severity of the chip, a dental crown can also be used to restore its appearance. Crowns also serve a protective function as it keeps the tooth enclosed in it safe from bacteria and acids in the mouth.

2. Discolored/stained teeth

Good oral hygiene is often not enough to prevent stains and discoloration from appearing on teeth. There are lots of coloring agents in the foods and beverages people consume, and this eventually leads to some stains developing on teeth.

Fortunately, there are many options when it comes to treating stains and discoloration. Professional whitening treatments are the most cost-effective way to treat discoloration and stains. While professional whitening costs more than purchasing over-the-counter bleaching agents, these treatments also provide significantly better results. Over-the-counter products can take months before noticeable results are seen, while a single professional whitening session can make teeth ten shades whiter.

However, not all stains and discoloration can be removed with whitening treatments. Some discoloration cannot be improved, but there are other ways to restore the appearance of the tooth like veneers and crowns.

3. Severely damaged/broken teeth

When a tooth has been severely broken or damaged, its integrity becomes compromised. That often leads to the tooth eventually falling out or breaking off. If the root structure of the tooth in question is still intact, a dental crown can be used to restore its appearance and function. The crown will also protect the tooth from further damage. If the root has been comprised as well, an extraction can be used to remove the tooth, and it is replaced with an implant.
