How to Find an Invisalign® Dentist

Invisalign Trophy Club, TX

Invisalign® clear aligners are one of the popular ways to straighten teeth, and they are also the most discreet way to get the job done. These clear aligners are made out of transparent plastics, making them difficult to detect when worn.

That is a huge difference from traditional metal braces, which have been the standard way to treat poor teeth alignment for over a century. Traditional metal braces use metal wires and brackets to straighten teeth, and this can temporarily affect the appearance of the person's smile. It can even lead to teasing and bullying, especially if the patient is young.

Finding the right Invisalign® dentist

The first step towards starting treatment with Invisalign® is finding a dentist who has lots of experience working with these oral appliances. Fortunately, the manufacturers of Invisalign® have made things easier for anyone looking to get their teeth straightened. They have created a ranking system that showcases dentists in any location based on their experience level. The different tiers of Invisalign® dentists are:

  • Preferred: These are dentists who handle at least 10 cases that are treated with Invisalign® each year.
  • Premier: These are providers who handle at least 25 cases every six months and 50 cases per year.
  • Elite: These are dentists who treat a minimum of 50 cases every six months and at least 300 cases per year.
  • Top 1%: These are dentists who administer Invisalign® treatments at least 200 times per year and have performed over 800 treatments.

The easiest way to find a good Invisalign® dentist is by using the search tool on the website. It brings up the contact information of all the providers in the patient's area.

What to expect when getting Invisalign®

The first step towards getting Invisalign® is a consultation with a dentist. During the appointment, the dentist will evaluate the patient's alignment issues with diagnostic tests like X-rays and a visual examination. 3D images of the patient's teeth are taken and used to create a customized treatment plan. The patient is shown projections of what their teeth will look like as they begin to move towards a more desirable alignment.

Once the dentist and patient are satisfied with the projections, the data is sent to an Invisalign® lab. It typically takes about two weeks for the lab to get the aligner trays back to the dentist. The patient is called back in for a second appointment when that occurs, and the dentist educates them on how to insert, remove and maintain their aligners. Patients will be instructed to wear their aligners for at least 20-22 hours each day.

Invisalign® aligners are designed to apply a precise amount of force on each tooth. That leads to shorter treatment times. The average treatment time with Invisalign® is around a year.
