The Many Benefits of CEREC® Technology

CEREC® is a newer dental technology that allows for the creation of dental crowns on the spot through the use of a computer and a machine. CEREC stands for the chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramics. With the CEREC technology comes a lot of benefits. Ready to learn more about them?

What are the benefits of CEREC technology?

Outlined below are a few of the benefits that come CEREC® dental crowns and the CAD/CAM technology behind it.

Immediate restoration

One of the main benefits of CEREC® technology is that it provides immediate restoration to patients. Unlike any other indirect dental restoration, CEREC crowns can be made in just one appointment at the dentist's office. Traditional dental crowns often require two to three appointments, which can be difficult for a lot of people to commit to. CEREC crowns, on the other hand, can be very advantageous for those who have tight schedules or limited availability.

Comfort

CEREC technology also offers the benefit of comfort. Traditional dental crowns often require an impression or mold to be taken of the damaged tooth, which can be uncomfortable and irritating for the patient. Additionally, having to have a temporary crown placed can be irritating and even cause some discomfort because anesthesia is typically required.

With CEREC technology, digital impressions are taken, which does not require any physical molds to be made. And, because CEREC crowns are made in the same appointment, the patient will not have to wear a temporary crown, thus avoiding any discomfort or potential for injury to occur.

Saves time

Another benefit of CEREC technology is that it saves time! Traditional dental crowns require a few weeks because a dental lab has to make them. This can be inconvenient for patients who have busy schedules or not enough time to visit their dentist two or three times in a month. With the CEREC technology, the patient can receive a new dental crown in just one appointment that will not last longer than two hours.

Prevents potential injury

CEREC technology prevents potential injuries. A lot of patients put their mouths at risk when undergoing traditional dental crowns because there is a period of time that requires a temporary crown to be worn. Temporary crowns are not very secure or strong, which can make the tooth more prone to damage from eating or bruxism.

When getting a CEREC crown, the patient does not have to ever wear a temporary crown. Instead, they can leave their dentist's office with a brand new crown the same day, thus avoiding any potential injuries that may come with having a temporary dental crown.
