Healthy teeth are strong and cavity free and also include healthy gums and a healthy tongue. Functions: Vitamin D helps to increase bone density. It also helps the body to absorb calcium.
Sources: The main source of Vitamin D for humans is sunlight. Vitamin D can also be found in portobello mushrooms and fatty fish.
Functions: Vitamin K which is also known as the shield vitamin, prevents tooth decay and any other substance that would break down bone in the body. It encourages the production of the protein osteocalcin which encourages bone strength.
Functions: Calcium helps to build and strengthen bones. As it relates to the mouth, calcium helps to harden the enamel and strengthen the jawbone.
Sources: One of the best sources of calcium is milk. Calcium is also present in salmon, soya beans, broccoli, and tofu.
Functions: Ther role of this mineral in the body is to support calcium. It helps to build strong bones and teeth.
Sources: Phosphorus can be found in kinds of seafood such as shrimp, tuna, salmon and sardines. It is also found in lentils, cheese, pumpkin seeds, and soybeans. Meats such as beef and pork are also great sources of phosphorus.
Functions: When paired with magnesium, potassium prevents the blood from becoming too acidic. If this happens, calcium leaches from the bones and teeth. Potassium maintains and improves bone density.
Sources: Fruits and vegetables are great sources of potassium. This includes bananas, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, prunes, and lima beans.
